Programme description
  • Series of 4 satellites in geostationary orbit for domestic telecommunications and operational meteorology.
  • Indian programme: ISRO responsible of development and operations.
  • The satellites are actively stabilised over 3 axes.
  • The design lifetime is 5 years.
  • Two geostationary positions, around 74°E and 93°E.
  • Replacement policy: two satellites at any time, in the two nominal positions; launches in each position at roughly 3-year intervals.

  • Real-time data downlink to the ISRO mission operation centre.
  • Data from the meteorological instruments acquired, processed and disseminated by IMD.
