Programme description
  • Series of operational meteorological satellites in geostationary orbit.
  • The first flight model was named GOMOS, the next three are named “Electro-L”, the follow-on three “Electro-M”.
  • Developed by Roscosmos and operated by RosHydroMet.
  • 3-axis stabilised platforms.
  • The design life of the satellites is 10 years.
  • The primary position is 76°E, with further positions at 14.5°W and 166°E.
  • The replacement policy is based on launching satellites in each of the three positions at roughly 5-year intervals.

Data circulation
  • RDAS (Raw Data Acquisition Station) for real-time acquisition of the full information.
  • HRIT (High Rate Information Transmission) for near-real time broadcasting of the full information.
  • LRIT (Low Rate Information Transmission) for broadcasting of image frames and other data.
  • DCS (Data Collection Service) to relay messages from self-timed DCP (Data Collection Platform) to a DCS Acquisition Station (DCSA).
  • GEOS&R (Geostationary Search & Rescue) to relay emergency signals to Local User Terminals (LUT).
