BackForward Satellite Programme: Hai Yang 2

Programme details
Programme description
  • Series of satellites for observations of dynamic ocean variables such as wind speed, sig wave height, sea level and sea surface temperature.
  • Chinese programme: CAST responsible of development, NSOAS of operations.
  • The platforms are actively stabilised over 3 axes.
  • The design life time is 5 years.
  • The satellites are in sunsynchronous orbits and drifting orbits.
  • The replacement policy is based on launching satellites in sequence, roughly 6 months before the expected end-of-life of a satellite.
  • HY-2N is a next generation of the. satellite.
  • HY-2S is a planned satellite for measuring salinity.
  • HY-2L is a follow-on to CFOSAT.
  • See detailed description at https://directory.eoportal.org/missions/hy-2a.
Data circulation
  • Data stored onboard and transmitted to receiving stations in Beijing and SanYa .
  • Real-time transmission to X-band stations in Beijing, Hangzhou, SanYa and Mudanjiang.
  • All data concentrated to the NSOAS centre in Beijing for processing, analysis and distribution.
