Observing Systems Capability Analysis and Review Tool
Satellite Programme: Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission
Single satellite programme, addressing the Global Energy and Water-cycle Experiment (GEWEX).
Joint NASA-JAXA programme: NASA responsible of platform, passive instruments and operations, JAXA of the precipitation radar and the launch service.
The platform is actively stabilised over 3 axes.
The design life time of the satellite is 3 years.
Drifting, low inclination orbit for frequent observation of the tropical zone.
See detailed description at
Real-time transmission through the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS).
The science data are processed by NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and by JAXA at the Earth Observation Research Center (EORC).
