BackForwardInstrument:  SOT

Instrument details
Acronym SOT
Full name Solar Optical Telescope
Purpose To obtain continuous high-resolution magnetic field imagery of the sun's surface
Short description Photospheric and chromospheric imaging and spectropolarimetry in the 480-650 nm VIS range. The band includes several lines of Iron whose Doppler analysis enables inference of the vectorial magnetic field at the photosphere
Background Part of a package of instruments for solar observation
Scanning Technique Sun pointing from a dawn-dusk LEO
Resolution 175 km at Sun surface
Coverage / Cycle Full solar disk at 10 s intervals
Mass Power Data Rate 300 kbps

Providing Agency JAXA
Instrument Maturity Flown on an R&D satellite
Utilization Period: 2007 to 2024
