Each instrument is assigned with a 5-step rating, evaluated as a blend of several elements such as the uncertainty, and the frequency and spatial resolution of the retrieved measurement in comparison with the space-time variability of the geophysical parameter. For this particular Variable, the rating is driven by:
the exploited measurement technique (lidar, radar, spectrometry, radiometry)
for spectro-radiometry: the exploited bands (6-8, 10-13, 13-15 mm; 700-800 nm).
RATING CRITERIA:
1
Backscatter lidar
Lidar altimeter
2
Spectrometer covering the range 5-15 mm
Radiometer with channels in the ranges 6-8, 10-13 and 13-15 mm
3
Radiometer with channels in the ranges 6-8 and 10-13 mm
Radiometer with channels in the ranges 10-13 and 13-15 mm
4
Radiometer with channels in the split window 10-13 mm
Spectrometer or hyperspectral radiometer covering the 700-800 nm band
5
Radiometer with some channel in the 700-800 nm band
W-band cloud radar
