Gap analyses by variable, type of mission or WIGOS subcomponent
Variable sorting criteria
Each instrument is assigned with a 5-step rating, evaluated as a blend of several elements such as the uncertainty, the vertical resolution, and the frequency and spatial resolution of the retrieved measurement in comparison with the space-time variability of the geophysical parameter. For this particular Variable, the rating is driven by:
the observing principle (lidar, radiometry)
the spectral range (UV, VIS, TIR or Mm-submm);
the scanning mode.(cross-nadir, limb).
RATING CRITERIA:
1
Differential Absorption Lidar
2
UV and possibly VIS spectrometer
3
TIR spectrometer
UV spectroradiometer
4
Mm-submm spectrometer
UV/VIS spectrometer scanning the limb mechanically or electronically
TIR spectrometer scanning the limb mechanically or electronically
5
UV/VIS spectrometer limb scanning by star occultation
UV/VIS spectrometer limb scanning by solar occultation
TIR spectrometer limb scanning by solar occultation
