GOES-R launched on 19 November 2016 and is now in geostationary orbit, which means
this satellite is now designated GOES-16. To address the training needs associated with the new capabilities introduced by GOES-16, the National Weather Service (NWS) is launching the Satellite Foundation Course for GOES-R/16 (SatFC-G).
The course is available through SHyMet and contains 37 short training modules to bring forecasters, the scientific community, and others up-to-date on the capabilities of the GOES-R/GOES-16 satellite. Course topics include an introduction to GOES-R/16 highlighting improved spatial and temporal resolution and additional new channels that will be available, followed by products and imagery that address a broad range of applications.
The intended audience for this course is forecasters, but anyone is welcome to participate. Those taking all 37 lessons and passing the quizzes will receive a signed SHyMet course completion certificate. For instructions on how to register to take this self-study course, please visit SHyMet website at http://rammb.cira.colostate.edu/training/shymet/satfc-g_intro.asp
