BackForward Variable: Geomagnetic field

Definition
Full name Geomagnetic field
Definition Magnitude and direction of the 3D magnetic field on the surface of Earth and within the magnetosphere (i.e., in low-Earth orbit and in geosynchronous orbit).
Measuring Units nanoTesla (nT) Uncertainty Units nanoTesla (nT)
Horizontal Res Units km Vertical Res Units
Stability Units nanoTesla (nT) (Stability /decade)

Comment: Besides the determination of the International Geomagnetic Reference Field (IGRF), among other models, which has many applications, geomagnetic field measurements are useful in Space Weather, at high temporal sampling, to detect geomagnetic disturbances within the magnetosphere. The reference frame is Cartesian or Cylindrical with many different orientations. Ground measurements have Bx, By and Bz as Cartesian magnetic field components oriented to geographical North, East and local Nadir, respectively. H, D and Z are also used as Cylindrical components with H oriented horizontally, D (declination) measuring the angle in relation to the local magnetic meridian and Z pointed to local Nadir.
