Programme description
  • Single satellite programme, addressing the Global Energy and Water-cycle Experiment (GEWEX).
  • Joint NASA-JAXA programme: NASA responsible of platform, passive instruments and operations, JAXA of the precipitation radar and the launch service.
  • The platform is actively stabilised over 3 axes.
  • The design life time of the satellite is 3 years.
  • Drifting, low inclination orbit for frequent observation of the tropical zone.

Data circulation
  • Real-time transmission through the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS).
  • The science data are processed by NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) and by JAXA at the Earth Observation Research Center (EORC).
