Observing Systems Capability Analysis and Review Tool
Satellite Programme: Indian National Satellite - 2
Series of 5 operational satellites in geostationary orbit, mainly addressing telecommunications, with hosted meteorological instruments (not on INSAT-2C).
Follow-on of the INSAT-1 series. Main improvement (apart from tlc): introduction of the S&R mission.
Indian programme: ISRO responsible of development and operations.
Platforms actively stabilised over 3 axes.
Design lifetime: 7 years.
Two geostationary positions, around 74°E and 93°E.
Replacement policy: two satellites at any time, in the two nominal positions; launches in each position at roughly 5-year intervals.
See detailed description at
Real-time data downlink to the ISRO mission operation centre.
Data from the meteorological instruments acquired, processed and disseminated by IMD.
