BackForward Satellite Programme: Okean Operational 1

Programme details
Programme description
  • Series of 9 operational satellites, the last two being also named "SICH", for ocean observation.
  • Joint Russia-Ukraine programme: NSAU responsible for the development of the space segment, with support from Roscosmos; RosHydroMet responsible of operations.
  • Satellites actively stabilised over three axes.
  • Design lifetime: 2 years.
  • The satellites exploited drifting, high inclination, orbits.
  • The replacement policy was based on launches at roughly 1-year intervals.
  • See detailed descriptions at https://directory.eoportal.org/missions/okean-o1 and http://eng.ntsomz.ru/ks_dzz/satellites.

Note: in the satellite descriptive sheets of Okean-O1 1. 2. 3. 5. 6 and 7, because of uncertain EOL dates, a mission duration of 2 years has been assumed.

Data circulation
  • Onboard stored data downlinked to stations in Moscow, Novosibirsk, and Khabarovsk (Pacific region).
  • Data also broadcast in real-type to local stations in an APT-like form.
