Each instrument is assigned with a 5-step rating, evaluated as a blend of several elements such as the uncertainty, and the frequency and spatial resolution of the retrieved measurement in comparison with the space-time variability of the geophysical parameter. For this particular Variable, the rating is driven by:
the spectral bands exploited (TIR window and possibly water vapour).
Spectrometer in the ranges 6-8 and 10-13 mm
Radiometer with channels in the split window 10-13 mm and in the range 6-8 mm
Radiometer with channels in the ranges 6-8 and 10-13 mm
Radiometer with channels in the split window 10-13 mm
Radiometer with a single channel in the 10-13 mm range
